The word "Doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning
"a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.

I've been a Doula practically all my life, but it wasn't until early 2009 that I became a DONA Certified Doula.
I have always been a nurturing person and an attentive listener. I take pride in my ability to create a peacful, safe and loving environment for postpartum Mothers and their Newborns.
I've taken specialized training through DONA (Doulas of North America) for certification in this organization. This entailed having completed a comprehensive course of study with specific fieldwork, essays and final examination. As a Certified Doula, I am required to take continuing education classes to keep my certification current. This enables me to get the most updated information available to the public. I re-certify yearly in adult, child & infant CPR. I also adhere to the Code of Ethics set up by the organization I belong to. In June of 2004 I recieved an AA Degree in Interior Design from The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. With a background in Design I am able to incorporate space planning techniques that maximize living space and minimize stress.
